Learn To Juggle
From JuggleWiki
Most people learn the 3 Ball Cascade pattern first. Here are the steps to learn it:
Contents |
[edit] Get Three or More Juggling Balls
These can be practically anything, from oranges to D-cell batteries. However, the more round, squishy, and reasonably weighted the ball is the easier it is to juggle. See Juggling Balls for details.
[edit] Learn to Throw One Ball From Hand to Hand
One ball
Get comfortable throwing one ball back and forth between your hands. The ball should arc to about eye level (or a little higher) for a beginner. There is no need to watch yourself catch the ball. Just watch the top of the arc. Get used to catching this way (It is easier than you think).
- Do not reach up for the ball*; allow gravity it down to your hands at about waist level.
[edit] Two Ball Exchanges
Two ball exchange, leading with the right and following with the left.
Start with one ball in each hand. Throw from your dominant hand first and then from your other hand. The second throw should be made about the time the other ball is midway through its arc. Both balls should reach the same height ideally. They also should both land at very separate distinct times, the rhythm is throw throw, catch, catch if they dont go to the same height, the rhythm will be off. Once you have this down, practice starting from the non-dominant hand.
Do not do a 2 Ball Shower exchange (circle juggling). Do not do this:
A lot of people do this naturally and have to spend some time kicking the habit. While it is possible to learn to juggle this way with three balls see (3 Ball Shower), most jugglers agree that it is significantly harder to do this than a 3 Ball Cascade.
Also be sure to throw the second ball under the first one. Do not do this:
You can learn to juggle three balls this way later (see 3 Ball Reverse Cascade) but it is also harder to learn to juggle this way.
[edit] Alternate Starting Hands
Two ball exchanges, alternating starting left and right
[edit] Make It Smooth
Two balls out of a three ball cascade
It just takes practice.
[edit] Flash Three Balls
Three ball flash
This is a big step. Start with two balls in your dominant hand, and one in your other hand. Throw the first ball from your dominant hand, the second from your other hand, and the third from your dominant hand. At first its very hard to throw the third ball under the second ball. Be sure the second ball is getting up to an even height with the first, or the third will be very hard to throw. Don't be scared to go back to 2 balls and pracice that a bit more.
Having problems letting go of the thrird ball ? This is very common, try this: close your eyes and throw the balls, listen to the landing rhythm, should be even and the balls close by your feet, repeat a few times till comfortable. Got that ? Right now open your eyes and repeat the 3 throws, do not try to catch any of them again listen to the rhythm. Do this a few times, now try and do the same but catch the balls and count them in 1,2,3 nice even rhythm.
[edit] Three Ball Cascade:
Three ball cascade
Just keep going. Keep trying until you get more and more catches.
It is possible (and not too hard) to get the 3 Ball Cascade so solid that you can pretty much stick your hands out in front of you holding three balls and the just seem to naturally juggle the balls as long as you want to. This is what you should strive for. But once you can get to a hundred throws or so you can start learning Basic Tricks. You also can start learning Two In One Hand even before you learn the 3 Ball Cascade. 'Two In One Hand' and the '3 Ball Cascade' are about the same difficulty.
