Boston Mess

Many try this first as Half Boston Mess, meaning one hand stays above, the other lower:

The hand on top travels from across, to middle, to its side, then back across;
the hand under travels from its side, to middle, to across, then back to its side.
When they are both on their sides, that is when you can swap under for over.
Get good with each hand on top, and the change may be easier.

Practicing Cross-arm Columns with two balls will help a lot learning the Cross-arm Column tosses.
The hard part is to not drag tosses into arcs: all balls must go straight up, and not be short.
That is why already knowing 'Mills Mess' will get in your way with learning this one.
Watch the center column, and let your hands do what they need to do to do that.

The easiest start is with both arms crossed, two balls in the upper hand.
Toss upper at the other side, lower at the other side, then middle with the upper hand.
Do that, until you can do that.
Both hands are then at their own sides for the next catch-toss, so next cross again and you are doing it.

If you trade upper and lower when you cross again, that is the Full Boston Mess:

If the upper hand makes all catches and throws Claw style, you get Cherry Picker.
