423

Java not available
It is a "Basic trick" not for show-juggling, but for learning to do more sorts of tossing.
For that, it should be learned as soon as you can, like after the basic 2-in-1's.

Each hand does first a '4' as a Fountain loop, then a '3' Cascade toss.
What's hard is changing between the two toss directions.

It is both as simple as, and usually easier than, 501, while "opening doors" to other patterns.

[edit] 42423

If you are having trouble with it, you may find it easier to do more Fountain loops before changing:

Java not available
This lets you do normal 2-in-1 type loops, then remember to do the odd toss across.
For each hand, you can say "four, four, Three" and doing that will usually help with site-swaps.
If you continue juggling, you will get to toss a '4' over an incoming '3' in other patterns.

If the above pattern appeals to you but is too slow, too much waiting, try:

[edit] 34440

Java not available
It is basically the same pattern, but the two '2's were made into a '4' instead of an idle hold.
There is still a '0' and that can help you keep it going correctly.

Any '4' toss can have various directions, and here is the easier variation:

[edit] 423 Reverse Fountain

Java not available
The British prefer to say "Rolling-in" for this form.
The '3' is tossed as a central Column to keep it out of the way, and it looks good there anyway.

[edit] 423 Columns

Java not available
This is an asynchronous version of the synchronous Columns.

[edit] 423 Cross-arm Columns

Java not available
Note that this version keeps an upper arm and a lower arm -- see below.

One form of Burkes Barrage starts from this variation.

[edit] Blake's Barrage

Java not available
Blake made it stop, with the '3' as a Column, to start over -- see if you can keep it circling like Windmill.

[edit] 423 Mills Mess

There are three tosses in Mills Mess -- Cross-arm, Outside, then Under-arm --
but only two throws in '423', so you can shift among the positions for the '3' and the '4'.

Here is one example:

Java not available
The '4' is tossed as the Cross-arm, the '3' makes the Under-arm toss.
Instead of an Outside throw, the '2' makes a Carry around from catching a '4' to make the other '4'.

This one is much harder:

Java not available
You will have to switch very fast from the difficult Under-arm '4' to the catch for the '3' as Cross-arm.
There is no room for any error, unless you rock from side to side as most do for "MM".
The '2' is shown as only a pause while you concentrate on the other Mess.

Here, you are again doing the Under-arm toss with the '4':

Java not available
The '3' is making the Outside toss, and the '2' is faking the Cross-arm move.
Hey, you just did Burkes Barrage!

One more variation:

Java not available
You are tossing the '4' Outside, the '3' Cross-arm, and faking the '2' as Under-arm.

For all these, you would like the two balls to seem to follow in a similar arc.

[edit] 423 Claw

Doing '423' as Columns with all Claw toss/catches can be imagined:

Java not available
Note that the '2' is actually tossed for this very peculiar and difficult version of Columns.
The animation does not really show the way a Claw catch is done, other than showing coming down from the top.

This one is the 3-ball version:

[edit] 423 Marden's Mayhem

Java not available
The '4' is Cross-arm, the '3' is a Tennis or Over toss.
By adding a ball as a Duplex, you will be able to do this with four and five balls.

[edit] Oscillator

Java not available
Each hand has its ball, making a Cross-arm toss over the tiny '3' Column,
then swooping around from the catch as the '2' following over the other one.
